Dr Marlene Kanga

Dr Kanga is the Immediate Past President of the World Federation of Engineering Organisations (WFEO), the peak body for engineering institutions internationally representing some 100 engineering institutions and approximately 30 million engineers. A chemical engineer, she was the 2013 National President of Engineers Australia and is a member of the Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering.  

Dr Kanga is a Member of the Order of Australia in recognition of her leadership of the engineering profession, has been listed among the 100 engineers contributing to Australia in the last century in 2019, and one of the Top 10 women engineers in Australia. She is a Foreign Fellow of the ASEAN Academy of Engineering and Technology.

As President of WFEO, Dr Kanga developed the vision for the role of engineering in advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals, including leading UNESCO to declare 4th March World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development, creating greater visibility for engineering and its impact. She leads collaboration with other international engineering organisations to build capacity in new technologies such as artificial intelligence and geo-spatial engineering for sustainable development. She is a board member of some of the largest organisations in Australia in the utilities, air transport and innovation sectors.
