The Helion team led by Tom Manwaring is a leading M&A advisor to the UK’s TV production sector.  It has advised on over 40 deals in the sector across the last 19 years, many international, worth over £1bn in value.

Despite the pandemic during 2020, Helion advised on these high-profile transactions:

  • The sale of iconic Natural History producer Silverback Films (Our Planet, Perfect Planet) on its sale to All3Media

  • The sale of Eleven Film, producer of global Netflix hit, Sex Education, on its sale to Sony

  • The sale of one the UK’s best known literary agencies, The Agency, whose clients include Mike Bartlett, Russell T Davies and Catherine Johnson, to Avalon

  • The sale of Two Cities (Patrick Melrose) to STV

  • Advising Leon Wilson and Ed Sleeman, co-creators of Netflix entertainment hit, Too Hot To Handle, on setting up their own business, Great Scott Media

  • Advising Neal Street on their new equity incentive deal with All3Media

In previous years the team has advised Raw TV on its sale to All3Media, Paddington Bear on its sale to Studio Canal, Love Productions on its sale to Sky, Mammoth on its sale to ITV, New Pictures on its sale to All3Media, Plimsoll Productions on raising start-up capital and True To Nature on its sale to Sky.

“We are absolutely delighted to be teaming up with Sony, particularly at this pivotal stage in Eleven’s growth. Tom at Helion was central to the sale process and at every step marshalled and invigorated it with exceptional insight and skill. Completing a deal of this scale in the midst of a global crisis is no mean feat, and Tom deserves huge credit for executing collaboratively, proposing robust solutions whenever challenges arose, and leaving all parties feeling incredibly positive about the outcome.”
